President Akufo-Addo has granted executive approval for the elevation of some local authority institutions.
The President in a response to a request by the Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development Minister, Martin Adjei Mensah – Korsah recommended for the upgrades of some Municipal, Metropolitan and District Assemblies (MMDAs).
He prayed the President gives his approval as those listed have met the requirement and equally grown in capacity and population.
The following have been upgraded from municipal assemblies to metropolitan assemblies.
1, Kpone katamso municipal assembly
2, Gomoa east municipal assembly
3, Techiman municipal assembly.
The President has also approved 12 district assemblies into municipal assemblies. They are:
- Bole district assembly
- Afigya Kwabre south
- Atwima Kwanwoma
- Atwima Nwabiagya North District
- Obuasi East District
- Sekyere South District
- Ningo-Prampram District
- Anloga District
- South Tongu District
- Shama District
- Techiman North
- Pru East District
