Police shoot robbery suspect dead as he attempts escape en route to court

A robbery suspect who attempted to escape from Police custody while being transported to court Friday morning has been shot dead in Tarkwa in the Western Region. Identified only as Kobby, also known as Nana, the man was among five persons implicated and arrested in the last Sunday’s robbery incident at Plat and Plume Gold Refinery at Bogoso that led to the killing of a police officer, Lance Corporal Nicholas Duku. He is dead,” Connect FM’s Shirley Ewurama Smith reported Friday morning. Details of the incident are now emerging. A total of 30 people including 28 workers of the gold refinery were arrested for investigation and after screening, one was implicated and detained by the Tarkwa District Police. Four others said to be involved in the robbery incident of April 29, 2018 were later arrested. They were processed and were being put before court Friday, May 4, 2018 when one of the suspects was shot dead when he attempted to escape from custody. The robbers were said to have made away with GH¢ 900,000  and  abandoned their vehicle, a Nissan Rogue with registration number GE 411-16.  The vehicle was later found at Prestea Huni Valley District.
