The National Executive Council of the People’s National Convention is set to deliberate on the party’s next line of action on Tuesday October 22, following the High Court’s decision to uphold the Electoral Commission’s decision to disqualify its presidential candidate from contesting in the 2024 presidential election.
The National Chairman of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Sampson Asaki Awingobit has maintained the party’s stance to petition the Supreme Court following the High Court’s decision.
Bernard Mornah who was seeking to overturn his disqualification failed to convince the High Court judge that the electoral management body erred in its decision to disqualify him.
In an interview on 3FM’s Hot Edition with Alfred Ocansey, the PNC National Chairman Sampson Asaki Awingobit expressed disappointment in the court ruling, describing it as a setback.
He further noted that a NEC meeting has been scheduled for today to discuss the way forward.
“We would not engage in any altercations, but we would seek legal redress. This is very disappointing. As the new Chairman of the party, I had a duty to project my candidate to ensure we make a mark this upcoming election, so the court’s decision is a setback.
The party intends to file an appeal and pursue the matter at the Appeal Court.
“A NEC meeting has been scheduled for October 22 to discuss the next steps. So, we will communicate what next” he said.
