Persons with disability in Tempane District receive ¢237,809 support

Physically challenged persons within the Tempane District of the Upper East Region have received support amounting to 237,809 cedis under government’s social protection intervention. Eighty-two of the beneficiaries received ruminants while 53 of them had farm inputs with others receiving tricycles and sewing machines. Some students with disability also received a cheque for 114,469 cedis. The support, which was sponsored with funds from the District Assembly Common Fund, is to empower the beneficiaries who are marginalised, to earn a decent living. District Chief Executive of Paul Azumah Abugre said the nature of the support given the beneficiaries was based on their request to the assembly. He urged the beneficiaries to put into good use, the support they have received in order to uplift their standard of living and welfare. Addressing journalist at the meet-the-press series, Mr Abugre noted agriculture is the backbone for the country’s economy for which reason government has been prioritising the sector. He said most people are benefiting from government programmes such as the planting for food and jobs, subsidy for farming inputs. He said the incentives by government have made farming attractive for the people. he said most people have taken in the good benefits of the programmes and resorted to go into farming including crop cultivation and rearing of livestock’s among others. One of the beneficiairies, 35-year-old visually impaired Dorcas Ndeogo from the kpikpira community described the support as a “lifetime dream come true”, indicating it will help them to generate income to support their families and undertake other social projects.
