Parliament does not even respect itself – Nana Ohene Ntow

Senior political analyst Nana Ohene Ntow has strongly criticised the conduct of Members of Parliament (MPs) on the Appointments Committee during the vetting of ministerial nominees on Thursday, 30th January 2025, describing their behaviour as a disgrace to parliamentary integrity.

Speaking on TV3’s The Key Points on Saturday, 1st February 2025, the former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) expressed deep disappointment over the chaotic scenes that unfolded, stating that Parliament has become its own worst enemy.

We are seeing a Parliament that does not even respect itself. This act by the MPs can never be justified. This same Parliament saw MPs chewing ballot papers, and nothing was done to the culprit.”

Economic Policy Analyst Senyo Hosi, who was also a panellist on the show, echoed similar sentiments, describing the behaviour of MPs as a blatant show of disregard for Ghanaians.

We should never entertain this type of behaviour from our MPs. Our MPs continue to disrespect us despite what we do for them. This nonsense must stop.”

He further noted that Parliament’s dysfunction is a reflection of the country’s overall governance challenges, stressing that those involved in the chaos owe Ghanaians an apology.

“What is happening in Parliament today is truly a reflection of the state of our affairs. The MPs who got themselves involved in this act must apologise to Ghanaians.”
