Over 300 persons have submitted their names to be considered as Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) across 43 assemblies in the Ashanti Region.
The office of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Region has set aside three days for vetting of these individuals.
Vetting for 11 district assemblies is expected to happen today, January 16 as the process has already commenced.
Throughout the process, 343 applicants will present their qualifications, leadership skills, and vision to the selection committee.
After the vetting process, three applicants will be selected from all 43 district assemblies for President John Mahama to nominate one out of the three aspirants.
The exercise forms part of the new government’s commitment to competence, dedication and visionary leadership at the local government level.
The party while in opposition advocated for non-partisan selection of DCEs and MMDCEs stressing that it is the best way to promote development at the local level.
Candidates are expected to demonstrate a strong understanding of the socio-economic dynamics in their areas and propose practical strategies to address issues such as unemployment, infrastructure, sanitation, and access to education and healthcare.
