Youth Organiser of the People’s National Convention(PNC) Abu Ramadan says the performance of the party’s vice presidential candidate Helen Matervi at the Institute of Economic Affairs’ Vice Presidential Debate held in Takoradi was better than that of Flagbearer Hassan Ayariga in the two Presidential Debates.

He says Mr Ayariga was “reckless in his comments” during the second and final Debate held in Accra.

Abu Ramadan was speaking on the performance of PNC’s Flagbearer Ayariga and the grievances of some members of the party on TV 3’s Saturday afternoon current affairs’ programme Headlines.

He said though Mr Ayariga’s performance at Tamale’s Presidential Debate was below average, party members “forgave” him because they considered it a first-time experience.

He said members thereon took ample time to coach Ayariga and his running mate, Madam Matervi, on the need to espouse policies of the PNC on such platforms.

He said Madam Matervi gave a good account of herself and PNC at the Akromah Plaza Hotel on November 6, 2012 when she sold ideas of the party from their manifesto.

According to the Youth Organiser, to avoid repetition of mistakes committed in Tamale, the party strategically launched its manifesto after the Vice Presidenital Debate and before the second Presidential Debate to guide its flagbearer.

Mr Ramadan disclosed that training was also given to Mr Ayariga on how to cite policies captured in the party’s manifesto to debate issues.

He said Mr Ayariga failed to do that and was only attacking the opposition New Patriotic Party’s candidate instead of attacking policies of the ruling party, National Democratic Congress, whose candidate he(Mr Ayariga) is contesting against.

He said Mr Ayariga’s closing “remarks were reckless” and did not take a stance for the PNC.

He mentioned that “the grassroots are not happy” with Ayariga.
