Oti’s Gibril Yakubu emerges winner of Zongo Shark Tank Season I

A young entrepreneur from the Oti Region, Gibril Yakubu, who is also the CEO of Tanko’s Enterprise, was adjudged winner of the maiden edition of the Zongo Shark Tank Business Reality Show held at the main hall of the St. Kizito Church in Nima, Accra.

Mr Gibril took home GH¢10,000 grant as a seed capital to start his mini-supermarket in Attakrom, a town in the Oti Region.

Oskhalim Food Processing and Ecoperiod also took home GH¢10,000 each for placing second and third respectively, among 10 other finalists.

The event, which was organized by the ZongoVation Hub, saw some influential business personalities who addressed the young entrepreneurs.

The CEO of ZongoVation Hub, Alhaji Mahmoud Jajah, in his submission, mentioned that the objective of the Zongo Shark Tank is to develop the startup and entrepreneur ecosystem of the Zongo communities in Ghana.

He pledged that ZongoVation Hub will continue to support young people in the Zongo communities who have sustainable business ideas.

Mr Jajah said the only way to reduce poverty and the high unemployment rate in the Zongo communities is by supporting the youth to start and manage their own businesses.

The keynote speaker, Mr Baba Sadiq, the founder of 3 Music Group, congratulated the participants of the Zongo Shark Tank Business Reality Show for their courage and commitment to build their own businesses.

Mr Sadiq mentioned that entrepreneurship is not as easy as people see it. He advised the young entrepreneurs to be steadfast and determined in the face of challenges.

The CEO of Izar Group and founder of Alhaji’s Wife, Mrs Rashida Saani Nasamu, in her submission, expressed delight and happiness about the Zongo Shark Tank.

As an entrepreneur herself, she challenged the young entrepreneurs develop their capacities and broaden their network if they are to succeed.

The Deputy CEO of the Zongo Development Fund, Alhaji Baba Siddique Yakubu, also expressed his joy, and mentioned that gradually the Zongo communities are beginning to address the unemployment challenges.
