Organised Labour threatens strike if illegal mining is not banned by Sept. 30

Leadership of Organised Labour has threatened to stage nationwide strike if government fails to ban all galamsey activities by September 30.

At a news conference in Accra on September 11, they vowed not to back down until the President bans all mining activities.

The Secretary General of TUC and spokesperson of Organised Labour, Joshua Ansah called on government to act fast.

“An order to halt all forms of mining that is legal or illegal in forest reserves and along water bodies, immediate evacuation of all mining equipment in forest reserves and along water bodies, the deployment of the police and the military with full orders to remove, destroy all mining equipment along water bodies and forest reserves.”

“We demand the President to establish a special court to prosecute the perpetrators of this horrible and heinous crime”.

“Organised Labour will seriously embark on series of demonstrations and nationwide strike if government fails to address it”.

Executive Secretary of CLOGSAG and Chairman of The Forum, Isaac Bampoe- Addo condemned the galamsey activities by political appointees and politicians.

“This one we are serious if you cross us, we will roll over you. This galamsey menace has got any political colour, we are going to be affected,” he said.

Deputy Secretary General of Ghana Federation of Labour, Ken Koomson called for immediate stoppage of the act.

“Today, the call is that President, you must leave up to the constitutional obligation because this is an emergency,” he said.
