Omane Boamah approved as Defence Minister

Parliament has approved the nomination of Dr. Edward Omane Boamah as Defence Minister pending swearing-in by President Mahama.

The House approved the nominee on Thursday, January 30, 2025 after the ninth report of the Appointments Committee was debated by MPs.

Dr. Omane Boamah was vetted by the Appointments Committee on Tuesday, January 28, 2025. He becomes the eight nominee to be approved by the House this week awaiting swearing-in.

On Wednesday, January 29, parliament also approved Minister-designate for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, Minister-designate for North East Region, Tia Ibrahim and Ashanti Regional Minister-designate, Dr Frank Amoakohene to be sworn-in as Ministers.

Similarly, the Upper East Regional minister-designate, Akamugri Atanga Donatus was amongst the nominees who were also approved pending swearing-in by President Mahama.

All four were vetted on Monday, January 27, 2025 and approved after 7th report of the Appointment Committee was debated by MPs on Wednesday.

They were approved after the House had earlier approved Emmanuel Kwadwo-Agyekum as Minister of State Designate, Special Initiatives, Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo as Minister-designate for Greater Accra Region and Kenneth Gilbert Adjei as Minister-designate, Works, Housing and Water Resources.

These approved ministers will add up to the 17 who have already been sworn-in by the President.

President Mahama on January 21 announced the nomination of his second batch of Ministers.

Among the prominent nominees were Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah as Minister of Defence, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak as Minister of Interior, and Kofi Iddie Adams as Minister of Sports and Recreation.

The nominations, announced on January 21, 2025, were submitted to Parliament through the Speaker for prior approval.
