The Oda central market has been gutted by fire.

Goods of shop owners running into millions of Ghana Cedis have been lost.

Eye witness accounts suggest the fire begun around 8:30 pm Monday evening at a small section before spreading to a wider portion of the Oda Central Market in the Birem Central Municipality of the Eastern Region.

The fire lasted for hours before it was doused by residents and later by the Ghana National Fire fire service. Shop owners are counting their losses.

No casualty was recorded. Officials of NADMO have begun assessment. Fire service personnel are yet to give official information on the cause of the fire.

The section of the market that was gutted had owners selling goods from clothes, sewing machines, bags of rice among others.
