Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has disclosed that the association would embark on strike if negotiations for 20% Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) for members fail.

The Association wants the Public Sector Joint Standing Negotiation Team to ensure that the negotiations are done not later than next week to ensure that what they are asking for is given to them.

“We are calling for engagement on these matters not necessarily a strike at this time but it would be inevitable if what we are expecting doesn’t happen and we are left in limbo as we see ourselves this time” she cautioned.

President of the association, Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo told 3FM Sunrise that at the moment, it is not about individual interest but a legitimate collective bargain by organized labour that is being pursued. Thus, COLA cannot be given to just one or two professional bodies or one trade union and the others left out.

“I am expecting that not later than next week, such a meeting would be called so that we can engage and know the way forward on these matters” she told Alfred Ocansey

She added that their proposal for a review of base pay for next year which has been on the negotiation table for a while must also be looked at.
