NIA strike temporarily suspended effective June 30

The National Identification Authority (NIA) Division of the Public Services Workers’ Union (PSWU) have announced the temporal suspension of their indefinite strike action with effect from Monday, June 30, 2025.

The NIA workers declared an indefinite strike action on Tuesday, June 24, 2025 over the Ministry of Finance’s failure to provide a definitive commitment or timeline regarding the payment of the Operational Support Allowance—the only allowance NIA staff get to supplement their meagre basic pay.

In a statement issued on Sunday, June 29 by Head, Corporate Affairs of the NIA, Williams Ampomah Darlas the suspension of the strikes follows extensive engagements with the National Labour Commission (NLC), the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), the Ministry of Finance (MOF), and the leadership of the mother Union, the Divisional Executive Council of the PSWU.

The statement said management acknowledges and appreciates the good faith demonstrated by the Union and assured all staff that their legitimate concerns remain a priority and will continue to receive the urgent attention they deserve.

“Accordingly, all NIA offices and registration centres across the country will resume full operations on Monday, 30th June 2025. The general public is encouraged to visit any of our offices to access our services,” the statement noted.

Management expressed deep regrets for any inconvenience the strike action may have caused during the period.

The NIA reiterated its commitment to deliver quality, efficient and reliable identification services to all Ghanaians in the discharge of its mandate.
