The Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) says residents of the Upper East, Upper West Northern and parts of the Brong Ahafo regions can now heave a sigh of relief as it has restored power to these regions after weeks of being plunged into darkness. NEDCo explained that there was a system failure, which resulted in power outages but the issue has been fixed to ensure free flow of electricity to these areas. Residents of the affected areas have for the past two weeks lamented over the power outage, which caused them to spend most of their nights in darkness. Since the beginning of October, residents have been without stable electricity as the lights go out more often. Explaining what caused the outages, Public Affairs Manager of NEDCo Alhassan Ababa said: “GRIDCo had a system disturbance so the line twisted from Techiman through Kintampo. “If it happens that way, it affects the north, parts of BA , Upper East and West, and anytime it happens, it is restored after a minimum of 30 minutes,” he explained. He further said the Upper East Region has never gone off without Northern Region going off because there is a problem with one of the breakers at the main control room at Bolgatanga. Mr. Ababa said NEDCo cannot, however, guarantee a 100 per cent outage-free power supply but the outages will be contained as and when it happens. By Kweku Antwi-Otoo| 3news.com| Ghana]]>
