N/R: ‘Yellow-Yellow’ driver shot dead in attempt to rescue girl from rapist

A ‘Yellow – Yellow’ driver by name Abdul Halim has been shot to death after he attempted to apprehend a suspect who tried to rape a girl in Nyanshegu, a suburb of Tamale, in the Northern Region. The suspect also shot victim Rashida Abukari in her right thigh when she resisted. According to the Northern Regional Police Crime Officer, Superintendent Otuo Acheampong, who confirmed the incident to editors.3news.com, the incident happened about 4:00am Wednesday, July 1. He said the unknown gunman who had wanted to rape victim Rashida Abubakari in her room at Nyanshegu shot her in the right thigh when she resisted. “Suspect who took to his heels after the act also shot deceased Abdul Halim who made an attempt to apprehend the suspect,” Supt. Acheampong said. Body of the deceased has since been deposited at the mortuary awaiting autopsy. The victim is said to be in a stable condition responding to treatment at the Tamale Teaching Hospital. Meanwhile, the Criminal Investigation Department of the Northern Regional Command of the Ghana Police Service has commenced investigation into the matter.
