My residence at Airport Hills does not belong to me – Ablakwa

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, MP North Tongu.

Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister and Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has dismissed allegations that he owns a property at Airport Hills registered in his sister’s name.

Speaking on TV3’s KeyPoints on Saturday, 8th February, he challenged his critics to provide evidence to support their claims.

“I challenge them to put out that evidence that shows that the Airport Hills residence belongs to me and that I’ve put it in my sister’s name. That’s absolutely untrue. That property doesn’t belong to me,” he stated.

Ablakwa, who was sworn into office as Foreign Affairs Minister on Friday, 7th February, clarified that Members of Parliament receive rent allowances as part of their conditions of service.

According to him, this allowance enables MPs to secure accommodation in suitable locations, including Cantonments.

“What they failed to tell the Ghanaian people is that MPs receive rent allowance and our salary is not GHC15,000,” he emphasised, dismissing any suggestions of impropriety in his tenancy arrangements.

He further explained that his residence is legally funded through his rent allowance, as is the case for many MPs who do not have government-provided accommodation.

He criticised attempts to mislead the public with false claims about his property ownership, urging transparency in political discourse.

“It is important that we focus on facts and not allow misinformation to mislead the public,” he added.

Ablakwa reaffirmed his commitment to integrity and accountability in public service.

He encouraged Ghanaians to seek accurate information and avoid being swayed by baseless allegations.

“I have always upheld transparency, and I will continue to serve with honesty and dedication,” he concluded.
