Mustapha Gbande, Deputy Director in charge of Operations at the Presidency, has called for the immediate arrest of three former officials over the disappearance of more than 1,300 containers belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) at Tema Port.
Speaking on Citi FM on Monday, March 31, Gbande demanded that Alexander Afenyo-Markin, former Board Chairman of ECG; Matthew Opoku Prempeh, former Energy Minister; and Samuel Dubik Mahama, former CEO of ECG, be held accountable for their alleged roles in the scandal.
“The Board Chairman, Afenyo-Markin, now wants to run away from responsibility, and it is in the interest of the country for him to be arrested immediately,” Gbande declared.
He further emphasized the need for justice, stating, “I am calling for the immediate arrest of Afenyo-Markin, Samuel Dubik Mahama, and Matthew Opoku Prempeh because we cannot continue to have these instances of corruption, and it is time for us to take action.”
The missing containers, which contained essential electrical equipment for national power distribution, were allegedly imported to support ECG operations but mysteriously disappeared under suspicious circumstances.

Reports suggest that procurement irregularities and questionable transactions were involved in the handling of these materials.
Investigations indicate that some former government officials and ECG executives may have been aware of the situation but failed to act.
The scandal has sparked public outrage, with many demanding accountability and transparency in the management of ECG resources.
