Telecom giant MTN Ghana says it has started an expansion drive in the Western Region with the building of 39 new 4G and 4G+ sites to improve internet connectivity and widen its coverage in the area.
Additional 24 new 2G and 3G sites are also being built across the region, Chief Executive of MTN Ghana, Selorm Adadevoh, announced at a soiree for customers of the telecom company last Saturday.
He explained the 4G+ technology is to ensure high data capacity and speed to meet the ever increasing bandwidth needs of their customers.
The CEO said the 4G+ and the introduction of fibre to home/business rolled out recently are all enablers of faster data services.
Mr. Adadevoh said their recent product, the MTN TurboNet device, has received excellent reviews by users in 4G areas, and urged others in regions living in a 4G connected communities to try it.
MTN had earlier in the year allocated 160 million dollars to upgrade and expand its network.
“Our industry is a fast-moving one, with customer demand constantly changing and requiring providers to be agile with the kind of investments we make and the innovations we introduce, Mr. Adadevoh observed.
He expressed worry over fibre cable cuts, noting Western region records the highest fibre cuts in the country, something he blamed on road contractors.
Mr Adadevoh underscored the need for contractors in the region to cooperate with MTN to curb the rampant cable cuts.
He thus appealed to road contractors to contact MTNto “relocate our fiber before they start digging” for road construction.
Meanwhile, Mr. Adadevoh has thank MTN shareholders in the region who joined others in Accra for the company’s annual general meeting in Accra last week.
