Mpox outbreak: Practicing preventive measures key – GHS advises general public

The Ghana Health Service says it remains committed to maintaining momentum to ensure that all cases of Mpox are detected early, thereby helping to contain the outbreak effectively.

As of May 31st, Ghana has confirmed 45 cases of Mpox in nine regions. Two persons are currently on admission in the Western Region.

According to the health authorities, the recent increase in the number of confirmed Mpox cases is largely due to enhanced surveillance efforts, particularly through active contact tracing and a heightened level of awareness among the public.

Efforts are underway to identify and isolate cases promptly within communities.

The general public is therefore urged to continue practicing preventive measures diligently.

Including, avoiding close contact with individuals showing symptoms, maintaining good personal hygiene and visiting the nearest health facility when you develop any of the symptoms.

The service in its recent SITREP said it believes together, through vigilance and cooperation, the country can control the spread of Mpox.
