Speaking Tuesday morning on the newspaper review segment on TV3’s New Day, he said Mr. Mahama’s performance on the management of the economy would earn him a second term when the National Democratic Congress goes to the polls on November 7.
A 45-year old George Boateng on Monday picked nomination form to challenge President Mahama on claims that the President is finding it difficult in running the economy that has been struggling in the past year.
“Mahama is having difficulty in running the country…He is not delivering on his promises,” Mr. Boateng told TV3’s Martin Asiedu-Datey on Mid Day Liveon Monday.
He argued Mahama’s failure is manifested in the current electricity crisis and the National Health Insurance Scheme, which he said, has collapsed.
But responding to the issue, Mr. Agbodja said “the management of the economy under Mahama has been great,” noting that the Mahama led administration has worked to ensure improvement in the provision of social services in the country.
He particularly mentioned the construction of senior high schools across the country, provision of free uniforms and sandals to pupils in deprived communities, and provision of potable water as some achievement under President Mills
“To me, this is the definition of economy… Economy means the delivery of social services,” he said, adding that “I believe President Mahama has given us good leadership and deserves a definite second term”.
Mr. Agbodja who had earlier stated it would be unwise for any member of the NDC to contest President Mahama said the party’s constitution allows any member of the party who meets the set criteria to contest.
“I think we need to have a wider acceptance to choose the party leader. I wish him (George Boateng) well. If he’s the one the delegates want, they would vote for him”.
