Management of the Metro Mass Transport (MMT) Company Limited has begun investigations into last night’s crash that resulted in the loss of about 71 lives, an official has revealed.

The investigation is independent of the one being conducted by the police, the official said.

Speaking on TV3’s News in Brief on Thursday, February 18, Bernice Akologo, the Head of Communications at MMT, expressed concerns at the high toll in the crash given the capacity of the bus.

The bus with registration number AS 7131 Y was mangled beyond repair after it collided with a cargo truck near Kintampo on the Kumasi-Tamale road. Almost all the passengers on board lost their lives.

“We have set up an investigation [team] to look into the crash,” Ms Akologo said.

She also pointed out that insurance packages are being prepared for families of the deceased, most of whom were sent to the Kintampo Municipal Hospital’s mortuary.

There were survivors, nonetheless, who are receiving medical treatment at the Hospital.
