Major General William Agyapong assumes command of the Ghana Armed Forces

On Monday, March 24, 2024, Major General William Agyapong officially assumed command of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) as the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS).

His assumption of office was formalized by a Transfer of Authority Parade held at the General Headquarters. The event marked a significant milestone in his distinguished military career.

Before taking up his new role, Major General Agyapong was promoted to the rank of a two-star general by the President John Dramani Mahama. The CDS was decorated with his new ranks by the Minister for Defence, Hon Dr. Edward Omane Boamah.

As the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Major General Agyapong will oversee the strategic direction and operations of the Ghana Armed Forces.

He will collaborate closely with other national security agencies to ensure the safety and security of the country.

In his address at the ceremony, Maj Gen Agyapong pledged to dedicate himself fully to safeguarding the nation’s security, assuring that he would work tirelessly to strengthen the armed forces and protect the country from emerging threats.
