President John Dramani Mahama was at the 37 Military Hospital Thursday night to visit members of his press corps involved in a fatal accident earlier in the day.
The vehicle on which the corps was travelling burst a tyre on the Shai Hills highway, leaving one journalist – Samuel Nuamah of the Ghanaian Times – dead.
Four others were in critical condition and had to be admitted at the emergency ward of the Hospital.
TV3’s Edward Kwabi and Jubal Amedator survived the fatal accident and are in a stable condition.
GTV’s Napoleon Ato Kittoe, GBC’s Pascaline Adadevoh, Peace FM’s William Gyentu and Enquirer’s Patrick Bida, however, are said to be the ones in critical condition and were visited by President Mahama.
The president was accompanied by Chief of Staff Julius Debrah.
Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) President Dr Roland Affail-Monney, who was also at the 37 Military Hospital, said most of the journalists on admission are doing well.
“Some of them were even able to speak to me,” he said on TV3’s News 360 on Thursday.
