Mahama must officially apologise to Kufuor for Dela Edem’s ‘unsavoury, distasteful’ attacks on Kufuor – Ernest Owusu-Bempah

A Deputy Director of Communications of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ernest Kofi Owusu-Bempah Bonsu, has told the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Forner President John Dramani Mahama to issue an official apology to former President John Agyekum Kufuor for the attacks on him by communicators of the NDC, especially Dela Edem.

Although the National Communications officer of the NDC Sammy Gyamfi has apologised to Mr Kufuor for Dela Edem’s utterances, Owusu-Bempah believes that an apology from Mr Mahama himself will be ideal.

He said that the failure of Mr Mahama to apologise would be deemed as an endorsement of the insults hurled at Mr Kufuor.

“Dela Edem speaks for the NDC and Mahama, Mr Mahama must come out officially to apologise to President Kufuor for this utterance,” Owusu Bempah told journalists in Accra on Tuesday, November 19.

“Ghanaians will vote against Mahama for this action,” he said.

The controversy stemmed from a viral video in which Dela Edem, a member of the NDC’s communications team, made offensive comments suggesting that the former President’s use of a wheelchair was due to a curse.

The NDC party, in a statement signed and issued by Sammy Gyamfi, Sunday, November 17, 2024, described the comments as “unsavoury and distasteful.”

Aside from Mr. Edem retracting his comments about the former President, Sammy Gyamfi in his statement also extended a formal apology to Mr. Kufuor on behalf of the party.

“The said comments are unsavoury and distasteful. It is therefore refreshing to note that our comrade in question has duly retracted his statements and rendered an unqualified apology to the elderly statesman.

“The NDC adds its voice to the apology that has been rendered and hopes that this retraction and apology brings closure to the matter. The NDC as a party accords utmost respect to the elderly in our society and honour to our statesmen.

“The party strongly advises all communicators to remain focused on propagating the transformational policies of the visionary nation-builder, H.E. John Dramani Mahama and the NDC for a resounding victory on December 7th, 2024.”

The party urged all communicators to concentrate on promoting the transformative policies of its Presidential Candidate, John Dramani Mahama, and the NDC to secure a decisive victory on December 7, 2024.
