Approximately 113,000 new names have been added to the voter register in the Central Region, the regional directorate of the Electoral Commission has indicated.

Exactly 112,576 eligible voters were added to the register, the directorate said.

Cape Coast District recorded the highest number with 9,208 potential voters registered.

The lowest number was recorded in the Hemang Lower Denkyira District, where 2,443 new names were added.

The exercise began on Thursday, April 28 and ended on Sunday, May 8.

Our correspondent Thomas Vincent Cann reports that a number of students of the premier university in the Region, University of Cape Coast, complained they could not register as a result of end-of-semester examinations.

TV3’s Cann said some students who found themselves in the long queue on the last day could not be registered still.

They therefore appealed to the EC to fix a new date for the continuation of the exercise.

Party agents of both the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic party (NPP), our reporter said, agreed that the exercise be continued at the school to get more students registered.
