Ghana Education Service (GES) has granted four-day permission to students in Senior High/Senior High Technical Schools (SHS/SHTS) who have attained 18 years of age or older to go home and partake in the upcoming limited voter registration exercise.

The directive was contained in a statement issued by GES dated Monday, May 6, and signed by Prince Agyemang-Duah, the Acting Director of Schools and Instructions Division.

Moreover, the statement further asked Regional Directors to “communicate the directive to all heads of SHS/SHTS within their jurisdiction for compliance.”

“The students have been granted four days off from campus, effective Tuesday, May 7, 2024 to Friday, May 10, 2024 to partake in the exercise in line with the constitutional right of all Ghanaian citizens to exercise their franchise.

“Regional Directors are kindly requested to communicate this information to all Heads of SHS/SHTS within their jurisdiction for compliance,” the statement said.

The EC will commence this year’s limited voter registration exercise on Tuesday, May 7, ahead of the December 7 general elections.

The 21-day exercise will end on Monday, May 27, 2024. It aims at individuals who have turned 18 years old since the last registration to be enrolled in the national album.

Also, according to the EC, the exercise will be conducted at its district offices and in difficult-to-access electoral areas.
