Life doesn’t come with a manual, it comes with a mama

From the painful sweet labour shouts of puuush and oooossh to the large plasters that cover the layers of skin and scars of tears and openings we did not have before but in the quest to be called a mama we enthusiastically bore those scars.

Outside of those who achieved the title that way, are the others who opened their arms when doors of uncertainty banged in the faces of little humans and they joyfully adopted them.

Yet more are the others who got the title not because they planned to respond to that name but in the stare of sorrow when death had taken away the manuals of existence of some, they offered to fill the gaps.

Countless also are the those who don’t wear the title as permanent tags but in the little moments of sitting in passenger cars, (trotros particularly) they wear it.

In the hospitals, they wear it.

In the markets, they respond.

In schools, they serve as mamas.

In the streets, they give it.

In the prisons and in the pulpits, dearly they become mamas.

If these statements are true, then to say a mama is only a physical body is untrue.

A mama is strength,

A mama is an emotion,

A mama is sleeplessness,

A mama is a counsel,

A mama is a state of emergency,

A mama is a task,

A mama is beauty,

A mama is time,

A mama is understanding,

A mama is supply,

A mama is a burden,

A mama is balance,

A mama is a presence in absence.

A mama is capability, availability and reliability.

A mama is help,

A mama is comfort,

A mama is love,

A mama is protection, accommodation, provision, direction, celebration. That’s who a mama is.

Therefore to have been in these states and performed incredibly, you are a strong mama. But to have offered these and birthed, nursed and catered for another life, you are super mama, near super human because words will fail if you tried explaining how you did it.

For all eyes couldn’t see, minds couldn’t comprehend and hearts couldn’t bear but you have done, you are wonderful.

From the GHANAIAN VILLAGER I wish all mothers a happy mother’s day.
