Lady conceals firearm in food; attempts to smuggle it into police cell

The vigilance of a police officer on duty at the Cantonment Police Station in Accra has foiled an attempt by a young lady to smuggle a firearm and ammunition into the police cell Sunday July 11.
According the police, the young lady, aged about 23 years with a Nigerian accent came to the charge office with two packs of Papaye-labeled fast food to be served on a robbery remand prisoner in the cells.
The duty officer suspected something fishy with the parcel and went a step further to thoroughly inspect the food package. It was found that the package contained a locally manufactured pistol with one AA cartridge concealed in one of the food packs with the food covering it.
The suspect lady however managed to flee the scene.
According to the police, efforts are underway to trace and arrest the suspect to assist in further investigations.
