Indigenes of Kete in the Krachi West enclave of the Volta Region have begun investing heavily in the sensitization of inhabitants for a favourable outcome in the December 27 referendum for the creation of the Oti Region. Personal resources including funds have been mobilized for the sensitization programme. Chief of KeteMajor (rtd) Abu Safiano Baba says they will make sure more than 50 per cent of the Ketes vote for an 80 per cent YES in the referendum next month. Addressing journalists in Accra on Wednesday, November 14, Major (rtd) Safiano Baba said those against the creation of the Oti Region are doing so for their parochial interest and are only stoking tribal sentiments. He said leaders of all the political parties in the Krachi West District are united in the fight for the creation of the proposed region. He said the creation of the Oti Region was clearly spelt out in the manifestos of both the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), so it came as a surprise for anti-Oti campaigners to fan the political flame. He claims those accusing the Justice Brobbey Commission of a “shoddy” and “illegal” job as regards its  consultation should be considered “naysayers”. The Chief of Kete’s sentiments come after protests were registered over a latent division of the people of the Volta Region with the proposal to have a new region. Even the President of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs, Togbe Afede XIV, is said to have questioned the voter population for the referendum, asking that all inhabitants of the Volta Region should be allowed to vote. But Major (rtd) Safiano Baba called on National Peace Council, the Christian Council, the Office of the Chief Imam and the National House of Chiefs not to stay silent over the issue. To him, the silent of the good portends evil for the Region. Source: 3news.com|Ghana]]>
