The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has started the first phase of relocation exercise of transport unions from Kejetia to some designated areas.
The move is to pave way for work to start on the $298 million redevelopment of the Kejetia Central Market.
The relocation exercise has been categorized in three phases.
Phase 1 will see the relocation of long journey buses to the Afia Kobi Lorry Terminal.
Phase 2 will see the relocation of another set of drivers to Bantama on Thursday, June 25 while the final phase, Phase 3, would be executed on Monday, June 29, when drivers would be relocated to the race course.
Some drivers have already been moved to the Afia Kobi Terminal under the initial phase.
But others are resisting to move.
They claim the place offered them is small and not convenient for booming trade
Daniel Asiamah, a driver, told TV3 that the move could hamper his business.
But the Public Relations Officer of KMA, Godwin Kumah Nyame, said his outfit may be compelled to use reasonable force to eject any driver who resists relocation.
Mr Nyame noted that the relocation was done in consultation with leaders of all the 24 transport unions operating in Kejetia.
He pleaded with the drivers to comply with the directives to avoid any mishap.
Meanwhile, the Chief Executive Officer of Afia Kobi Market, Thomas Kwabena Braimah, has assured all drivers of adequate space for operation.
