KATH begins construction of 4-storey pharmaceutical complex

Work on a 43-million Ghana cedis ($2.4m) project has begun at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) to ensure patients receive quality pharmaceutical services.

The 4-storey pharmaceutical complex, expected to solve the age-old problem of lack of adequate and centralized space for the management of pharmaceutical products and services, is said to be the first of its kind in the almost 70-year history of the hospital.

“This project signifies a transformative step in the delivery of specialist pharmaceutical services and healthcare in Ashanti Region”, Chief Executive Officer of KATH, Professor Otchere Addai-Mensah mentioned at the sod-cutting ceremony.

Management of the hospital indicate that, the project forms part of interventions to ensure that every patient who walks through the doors of KATH receives timely, comprehensive, compassionate, and convenient care.

“Beyond its functionality, the project is a testament to our collective determination to meet the challenges in healthcare delivery”, Professor Addai-Mensah emphasized.

The Pharmaceutical complex would be funded entirely from the Internally Generated Funds of the hospital derived from its Drug Revolving Fund.

The complex will have a warehouse, total parental nutrition unit, drug information pharmacovigilance unit, and compounding or production unit among other units.
