JB Danquah’s widow urges Parliament to act on unsolved murder after 9 years

Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin and the late JB Danquah Adu.

Nine years after the tragic murder of Joseph Boakye (JB) Danquah Adu, former Member of Parliament (MP) for Abuakwa North, his widow, Ivy Heward-Mills, is renewing calls for justice.

In a series of emotional Facebook posts, she urged the Speaker of Parliament and MPs to act decisively in finding the killers of her late husband, who was murdered on February 8, 2016, in his home at Shiashi, East Legon, Accra.

Expressing her frustration over the prolonged silence from Parliament, she compared JB Danquah’s case to that of Jo Cox, a British MP murdered in 2016, whose killer was found, tried, and sentenced within five months.

Good morning, Parliament of Ghana. Rt. Hon. Speaker, Hon Alban S.K. Bagbin, Hon. Majority Leader, Hon. Mahama Ayariga, Hon. Minority Leader Hon. Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, and all Honourable MPs: Respectfully, you have been silent,” she wrote.

She further pleaded with lawmakers to ensure that his case does not remain unresolved for a decade.

Nine years is a long time, but let it not be said that 10 years went by and Parliament looked on unperturbed.”

In another post, she mourned her late husband, writing:

That indelible smile… 9 years have gone by… Will there ever be justice? It is not well. It is not well at all.

Despite previous arrests and investigations, the mastermind behind JB Danquah’s murder remains unknown. His widow’s appeal has reignited public calls for a renewed investigation into the case.
