Vice-President, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has called for year-round discussions on women’s issues, not just on International Women’s Day.
Speaking at the 2025 Women’s Dialogue held in commemoration of International Women’s Day under the theme: “Resetting the Agenda for Women: Accelerating Action on Women’s Rights, Equity, and Empowerment,” the Vice-President pledged to work with all like-minded stakeholders to advance the true liberation of women.
In a statement signed by the Press Secretary of the Vice-President, Ama Pratt, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to eliminating all forms of violence against women and ensuring that every girl and woman could achieve her dreams.
In her address at the 2025 Women’ dialogue, the Vice President emphasized that the day is a call to action in the ongoing struggle for gender equality.
She urged all women to acknowledge the achievements made thus far while recognizing the need for sustained efforts to break barriers and create opportunities for the next generation.
She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding women’s leadership, strengthening legal protections against gender-based violence, and addressing systemic issues such as child marriage, female genital mutilation, and the high dropout rates among girls in schools.
She highlighted the inclusion of sanitary pad distribution in the government’s agenda and the directive given the Minister for Education to take immediate action to address challenges faced by young girls.
