The Industrial and Commercial Workers Union (ICU) has called on government and duty bearers to roll out policies that will ensure safe working environment for women.

According to the ICU, the policies should be able to deal with sexual harassment and discrimination against women at the workplace.

This is contained in a statement to mark this year’s International Women’s Day (IWD) which is being commemorated on March 8 under the theme, “Count her in, Invest in women”.

“Of a major concern to the ICU, is the need for government to earmark funds to provide training for women employees on how to detect and recognize violence at the workplace,” a portion of the statement reads.

The International Women’s Day is commemorated annually to celebrate women. The day also provides a platform for a collective action to promote the rights of women.

The Union also appealed to organizations to provide flexible working hours, parental leave and child services for women under such conditions.
