Investigative journalist’s house ransacked days after ‘exposing’ minister of state

Edward Adeti
Residence of Starr FM’s Upper East Regional correspondent, Edward Adeti, whose investigative piece recently caused the resignation of Minister of State, Rockson Bukari, was Thursday evening ransacked by unknown assailants. The assailants reportedly broke into the journalist’s Bolgatanga residence when he was out of home with his family and made away with his television set. This comes days after the Minister of State and former Upper East Regional Minister resigned as a result of a leaked tape in which he was heard scheming to bribe the journalist to drop a story against a Chinese mining company, Shaanxi. Read: Minster of State at Office of President resigns over leaked tape It is however not clear whether there is any correlation between the two incidents but the attack on the journalist has raised suspicions among the public. Employers of the journalist have condemned the attack while calling on the security agencies to provide security for him and his family, as well as all journalists. “EIB Network has arranged internal security for Mr. Adeti and his family, and will want to call on the security agencies to make it a priority to give 24-hour protection to all journalists risking their lives to unearth rot in society”, a statement signed by CEO of EIB Network, Nathan Kwabena Anokye Adisi said. His employers are also calling on the general public to join in the condemnation of attacks on journalists in commemoration with World Press Freedom which falls on Friday, May 3.
