Interpol issues arrest warrant for 'Intermediary 5'
The International Criminal Police Organisation, INTERPOL, has issued an arrest warrant for one Samuel Adam Fosters, also known as Samuel Adam Mahama, for his role in the procurement of three military transport aircrafts to the government of Ghana between 2009 and 2015. The warrant was issued on Friday, July 10, 2020. In February, UK’s Royal Courts of Justice pronounced judgement after years of investigations by the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) into activities of Dutch firm Airbus SE. Partners of the firm in South Korea, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Taiwan, Colombia, Mexico and Ghana were found guilty to have offered bribes to third parties “in order to secure the purchase of aircraft, by civil airline companies”. In the case of Ghana, it involved one referred to as Intermediary 5, who was said to be a close relative of a “high ranking elected Ghanaian Government official, referred to as Government Official 1. All tell-tale attributes pointed to Mr Adam Mahama as Intermediary 5. The warrant sighted by editors.3news.com gave assurances that “an extradition will be sought upon arrest of the person, in conformity with national laws and/or the applicable bilateral and multilateral treaties.” Among the charges levelled against Mr Adam Mahama is accepting bribe to influence a public officer. It is still unclear which public officer is being referred to. The approved judgement of the Court of Justice had referred to the officer as Government Official 1. The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), in the wake of the judgement, had stated that the Government Official 1 is former president John Dramani Mahama, who is the leader of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
