The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mubarak, on the advice of the Upper East Regional Security Council and by Executive Instrument, has reviewed the Curfew hours imposed on Binduri Township and its environs in the Upper East Region.
The review hours start from 8:00 pm to 5:00 am from Monday, May 5, 2025.
The earlier time was from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am.
In a statement, the government urged Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, Youth, and people of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them, as well as to use non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace in the area.
“Meanwhile, there is a total ban on all persons in the Binduri Township and its environs from carrying arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons, movement of motorbikes, men and women wearing smocks, and any persons found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted,” the statement added.
The curfew follows a gun attack by unidentified assailants at a drinking spot in the Binduri District of the Upper East Region which left three people dead and three others injured.
The incident occurred on Sunday night, March 24, 2024, near the Binduri market, sending shockwaves through the community.
According to security sources, the attackers stormed the drinking spot on motorbikes and opened fire, killing three people on the spot.
Three others sustained gunshot wounds and were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear, but security sources suspect it may be linked to the protracted Bawku chieftaincy conflict, which has fueled sporadic violence in the region.
