The National Cathedral of Ghana has responded to the recent “bombshells” released by North Tongu Member of Parliament Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa in his recent trip to the United States of America (USA) to gather evidence on his exposés on the project.

The National Cathedral Secretariat said it will not be drawn into a constant tit-for-tat social media war but will rather welcome a parliamentary oversight in Parliament and not on social media.

Nonetheless, it responded to all the five questions – tagged ‘bombshells’ – raised by Mr Okudzeto Ablakwa in his “discoveries”.

“The first reported ‘bombshell’ is that the ‘Cathedral Project is registered in Washington under a different name’.

The response signed by the Executive Director, Dr Paul Opoku-Mensah, on Tuesday, May 2 goes thus: “For the record, the National Cathedral of Ghana and Bible Museum Foundation Inc. is not the USA branch office of the National Cathedral of Ghana.

“Rather, it is a special-purpose ‘vehicle’ created for the specifications of the US fundraising needs of the National Cathedral project.”

It pointed out that the so-called difference in name only reflects the two areas of fundraising in the US.

“The transition to a full-fledged representation will be a process led by the Board of Directors in Ghana, and with input from the Attorney General. This will involve a reconstitution of the current board.”
