John Mahama; Ghana’s energy sector needs an urgent surgery, failure to which the economy will crash.

The Industrial and Commercial Workers Union (ICU) has appealed to workers to support the new government in its quest to achieve economic recovery.

This the Union says, will ensure the government rolls out initiatives to create more jobs for the teeming unemployed youth.

General Secretary of the ICU, Morgan Ayawine issued a statement as part of the Union’s message to workers to mark the Christmas festivities.

“Lessons learnt and experiences gained, should guide you as workers to launch into the incoming year (2025) with greater commitment and leverage on the wind of change blowing in the country,” he said.

He said workers should spearhead productivity in their organizations.

” To step up your effort at productivity within your respective workplaces to help government effort towards the resuscitation and growth of the Ghanaian ailing economy,” he urged.

Mrg Ayawine underscored the relevance of new government in place and entreated workers to support the new administration.

“As preparations are under way to usher a new political administration into office in January 2025, we urge you as workers who are the nation builders, to rededicate and redirect your effort towards speedy economic recovery,” Mr Ayawine noted.

He said workers should contribute their quota in the job creation agenda of the new government. He renewed the Union’s commitment to supporting employers in generating profit in their institutions.

“To our social partners (employers) we wish to reassure you as a union of our continuous collaboration for increased productivity and profitability of your businesses, whilst at the same time anticipate your reciprocity in offering optimum conditions of service for workers within your work organization, ” the General Secretary said.

Mr Ayawine added that workers must ensure that they put in their maximum best to foster growth of their respective organisations and institutions.

“Finally, to the gallant workers of Ghana, we encourage you to continue holding high the flag of Ghana and work harder in your efforts at full recovery and sustainability of your employers’ institutions and organizations in spite of the economic difficulties the country is passing through now,” he said.
