President John Dramani Mahama has delivered a strong message to his newly sworn-in ministers, emphasizing that arrogance and disrespect toward the Ghanaian people will not be tolerated under his administration.
Speaking at Jubilee House on January 22, 2025, during the swearing-in ceremony of six ministerial appointees, the President reiterated his commitment to delivering good governance and holding his government to the highest standards.
“As I pointed out during my inaugural speech, Ghanaians have, through their votes, declared their intention to demand the highest standards of governance, and we cannot afford to fail them,” President Mahama stated.
“This naturally puts a burden of responsibility on us, which we must prove equal to. Ghanaians have shown that the days of tolerance for disrespectful gaslighting by government officials are well and truly over.”
The President charged his ministers to serve with humility and accountability, reminding them that their authority emanates from the people.
“We must exhibit tolerance for their views and work to meet their aspirations. This government will not tolerate arrogance or disrespect for the people who elected us into office. Modesty and prudence must be the guiding principles upon which you, myself, and our Vice President fashion our governance,” he said.
President Mahama also highlighted the need for transparency, fairness, and accountability, declaring that anti-corruption institutions will be empowered to investigate and act against any appointee found guilty of wrongdoing.
“The people of Ghana will hold us accountable for the trust they have placed in our hands. It cannot be business as usual. We must be transparent and fair in all our dealings,” he emphasized.
The six newly sworn-in ministers, who were approved by Parliament on January 21, 2025, include:
- Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson – Minister for Finance
- Dr. Dominic Ayine – Attorney General and Minister for Justice
- John Jinapor – Minister for Energy and Green Transition
- Haruna Iddrisu – Minister for Education
- Eric Opoku – Minister for Food and Agriculture
- Governs Kwame Agbodza – Minister for Roads and Highways
