I will create jobs to eradicate ‘Kayayei’ phenomenon – Ali Adolf

Ali Adolf, Northern Regional Minister-designate has outlined his plans to curb the ‘Kayayei’ phenomenon when given the nod.

Speaking before the Appointments Committee in Parliament on Thursday, Ali Adolf explained that the issue of ‘Kayayei’ has lingered for years admitting that the challenge stems from unemployment in local communities in the Northern Region, causing young girls to migrate to Accra and other cities in search of jobs.

When questioned about how he will eradicate the issue of Kayayei when given the nod, the Northern Regional Chairman of the NDC responded by saying more jobs will be created to ensure a more attractive and sustainable environment which will discourage young girls from leaving their communities to Accra and other cities.

“This issue of Kakayei is something that affects all of us…I want them (Kayayei) back home and so I will do everything possible to make home attractive and they will start running back home.

“Whatever resources we can put to make home attractive so they leave whatever reason for which they came to Accra and come back home.

“There will be jobs for the youth and when the jobs come nobody will tell them that home is now better than it was, go home,” he stated.

According to Mr Adolf, these programmes would include initiatives in tailoring, hairdressing, farming, and other income-generating ventures tailored to meet the needs of the local economy.
