Minister of State for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu has revealed he has never accepted state-provided personal security or a domestic staff.
This is in spite of the fact that he is entitled to it.
“I have a driver, but I pay him myself. He’s a driver I have been with for about 20 years,” he disclosed on The Keypoints on March 15.
He added: “I have never accepted a policeman. In fact, I am entitled to two. These days, as an MP, I am also entitled to one from Parliament. But I have never accepted one.”
His statement comes amid discussions about government expenditure and the privileges given to political appointees.
He defended the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government’s approach to staffing at the presidency, emphasizing a significant reduction in political appointees compared to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.
He disclosed: “The NPP had 336 political appointees. Now there are only 30.”
He also noted that civil servants have not been increased under the NDC government.
“President Mahama has not added one more civil servant to what he came to meet. Already, there is a net freeze on employment,” he stated.
According to him, the significant reduction in political appointees is in line with the government’s commitment to reducing expenditure.
