The Speaker the 9th Parliament deserves, but will likely not get

Hon. Dr James Klutse Avedzi, MP for Ketu North Constituency

In a response to a recent editorial by 3News.com titled Bagbin’s Tenure Has Been Full of Missteps, Misjudgments; Why Would Anyone Want Him Retained as Speaker of Ghana’s 9th Parliament, Hon. James Klutse Avedzi, Member of Parliament for Ketu North, has issued a clear statement disassociating himself from the opinion expressed in the publication.

The opinion piece, written by the Editor-in-Chief of 3News, Richard Sena Quarshie, raised concerns over the tenure of Speaker Alban Bagbin, questioning his leadership and judgment during the current Parliament’s term.

The editorial has stirred a heated debate across the political landscape, with some calling for Bagbin’s removal, while others argue that his leadership is essential to the functioning of Ghana’s legislature.

In his response, Dr Avedzi made it unequivocally clear that the views in the editorial were those of 3News.com alone and not reflective of his stance.

My attention has just been drawn to a publication titled: ‘Bagbin’s tenure has been full of missteps, misjudgments; why would anyone want him retained as Speaker of Ghana’s 9th Parliament’ by 3News.com. The opinion expressed in this publication is entirely that of 3News.com. I have absolutely nothing connected to the publication and should not be given any attention,” he stated.

Dr Avedzi went further to express his full support for Speaker Bagbin, aligning himself with the recommendation from the President-elect for the Speaker to continue in his role.

“I fully support the recommendation from the President-elect for Speaker Bagbin to continue his work as the Speaker of the 9th Parliament of Ghana,” he affirmed.
