‘I accepted PBC MD offer because I think it’s a calling; Mahama made no mistake’ – Seidu Yonye

Alhaji Seidu Yonye is PBC Managing Director

Managing Director of the Produce Buying Company (PBC) Limited, Alhaji Seidu Yonye has said he is the right man chosen for the job to revamp the company.

PBC was established as a 100% state-owned enterprise and a subsidiary of COCOBOD. The company engaged in buying, collecting, storing, transporting, and dealing in with cocoa, coffee and other agricultural products. It chalked a number of successes until its current severe financial crisis, with reports indicating impending liquidation due to a significant debt.

Since 2024, the company has been struggling to secure funds for the purchase of cocoa beans due to debts owed banks.

But Alhaji Seidu Yonye believes he has the capabilities to restore PBC to its past glory.

Explaining why he chose the offer to be MD for PBC, knowing the distressing financial state of the company, he said “I think it is a calling and to contribute my quota to mother Ghana.”

In an interview on TV3’s Hot Issues, Sunday, June 29, 2025, he noted that based on his past professional experiences and background, he believes he has the wherewithal to revive the company, noting that the President made no mistake in choosing him to lead the operations of PBC.

“This is what I think I should be doing looking at my professional background coupled with logistics and supply chain and marketing at the back of it.

“I think I stand in the right position of taking PBC and navigating it out of this current situation. I think His Excellency, the President John Dramani Mahama did not make a mistake. He really did a careful check and he has taken upon himself the right person that can deliver PBC based on his vision,” he stressed.

Alhaji Seidu Yonye further expressed optimism that the company could be back on its feet, highlighting the previous achievement and success of PBC.

“PBC did not just come to this at ago. PBC, in the early days, since inception was a very vibrant business that gave a lot of direct and indirect jobs to the Ghanaian economy.

“I think it recorded close to 35,000 direct and indirect jobs that it gave to Ghanaian economy. PBC went through a lot of stages, success stages and went to the stock market,” he stated.

He added: “This was all as a result of the human factor and leadership took PBC to that level not until 2017 till date seeing PBC going down on its knees to its current abysmal situation of business. I think PBC was doing great.”

Alhaji Seidu assured that with the necessary support from government, PBC will be revamped.

“For me, where I sit now, I think PBC can be revamped and made more profitable. In the introduction, I told you that the human factor plays a lot when it comes to managing an entity.

“Your leadership style counts, the vision you have for the business counts, your strategy counts,” he said.
