Health Workers at Tetteh Quarshie Hospital demand speed ramps after midwife’s death

Health workers at Tetteh Quarshie Hospital are demanding speed ramps and a footbridge along the Akwapem Mampong-Accra highway.

This call follows the tragic death of a midwife from the hospital who was hit by a speeding vehicle.

For hours, health personnel protested grieving a colleague, clad in black and red.

To the deceased’s family, a benefactor has been lost.

“I have been hit very hard, my parents can’t even sleep well, she was even supposed to graduate from Wisconsin University November 14, I can’t ask for justice, vengeance is of the Lord” Sarah Nartey sister of the deceased lamented.

This incident marks the sixth death related to accidents on this stretch. The health workers have vowed to strike if their demands are not met within a week.

Francis Aboagye is the convenor. he said, “We have done what is lawful by writing several letters to demand speed ramps, from this protest, we have given a one-week ultimatum, speed ramps must be fixed, else we will lay our tools down,’ he warned.

“We have lost an experienced midwife who saves women and deliver children. This disheartening, we need the speed ramps” Nurse Abena Ntow flared.

State officials have intervened, promising temporary solutions, including road strips.

“My condolences to you, I am saddened at your loss. We will find solutions to the challenge, in consultation with the engineer from Highways, we have resolved to provide a ramp strip in the interim and possibly a foot bridge in the long term,” Eastern Regional Minister, Seth Kwame Acheampong assured.
