Three months after launching the ‘Heal Komfo Anokye Fund’ targeted at raising $10 million to put Ghana’s second largest teaching hospital in a befitting shape, renovation works have begun.

With 60 percent of the funds realized so far, work on the roofs have been completed.

“The last rains we’ve experienced, not even one leakage was detected in any of the wards. We’ve moved from roofing works and are currently demolishing A4 and A5 wards. Because of space concerns, the hospital is still in session, so we are doing the renovation work in faces” Committee Chairman of the Heal Komfo Anokye Fund, Samuel Adu Boakye disclosed when the Asantehene inspected progress of work.

Despite receiving referrals from 12 out of the 16 regions of Ghana, the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital is struggling to provide a comfortable healing environment due to deteriorating state of the four traditional blocks.

The continuous calls to improve the state of the facility made the Asantehene launch the ‘Heal Komfo Anokye Fund’ in November 2023.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu the second appears satisfied with work done, so far, after the Chief Executive Officer of KATH, Professor Otchere Addai-Mensah, took him round to explore the workflow.

The ‘Heal Komfo Anokye’ project will ensure the facility is renovated to provide a safe and conducive healing environment as part of Asantehene’s 25th anniversary legacy projects in May 2024.
