Persons with Disability and stakeholders in the disability community of Ghana once again had reason to celebrate ability in the face of disability as they congregated for the H4P Organization’s prestigious Christina Hackman Impact Leadership (C.H.I.L) Awards and Dinner Night on Saturday, March 15 at the Labadi Beach Hotel, Accra, Ghana.
The event was more than just an awards ceremony; it was a night filled with joy, camaraderie and heartfelt stories.
The C.H.I.L Awards was instituted to honor the legacy of Mrs. Christina Anansiwa Hackman, the late mother of the CEO of the H4P organization for her exceptional and impactful service to humanity, particularly her dedication to improving the lives of Persons with disabilities (PWDs).
It is an exclusive awards scheme for PWDs dedicated to recognizing their remarkable achievements and contribution to society.
In his official address, the Founder and CEO of the H4P Organization, Bishop Dr. Charles Cofie Hackman expressed his earnest desire for a mindset renovation when it comes to disability.
“My hope is that the C.H.I.L. Awards will make people see disability for what it truly is, a part of human diversity that requires respect, equal opportunity and above all dignity,” he said.
Three distinguished individuals with disability were honoured as the recipients of the second edition of the prestigious C.H.I.L. Awards which took place at the Labadi Beach Hotel.
The winner for the Education Category was Prof. Wisdom Mprah, a practitioner in the field of disability and an esteemed Associate Professor at the Department of Health Promotion and Disability Studies, School of Public Health, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), with a profound commitment to advancing the education and welfare of individuals with disabilities.
Mr. Ntim Twumasi Kwaku (NTK) took the C.H.I.L award for the Entrepreneurship category.
NTK is a distinguished Ghanaian entrepreneur and philanthropist, celebrated for his profound impact on both the business landscape and social development.
The Prestigious C.H.I.L Award Winner for the Sports category went to Raphael Botsyo Nkegbe.
Raphael is a remarkable and inspirational three-time Paralympian, celebrated for his extraordinary achievements in parasports.
With a distinguished career spanning over a decade, Raphael has competed in multiple prestigious international events, including the 2008 Beijing Paralympics, the 2011 Maputo African Games, the 2012 London Paralympics, and the 2023 Paris Games.
The winners of this prestigious C.H.I.L Awards will receive a C.H.I.L Plaque, C.H.I.L Certificate, C.H.I.L Medal of Honour, a cash prize, an exclusive interview with Bishop Dr. Charles Cofie Hackman, the H4P CEO and Host of the Helping Hand TV Show and a year of free publicity of any disability related project the winner would embark on.
Award recipients or their representatives used the platform to express their sincere gratitude to Bishop Dr Charles Cofie Hackman and the H4P Organization for recognizing their efforts and contributions.
The Special Guest of Honour, Sister Elizabeth Newman of the School Sisters of Notre Dame (SSND) who is the Director of Orthopedic Training Centre (O.T.C), was awarded with with the Prestigious Lifetime Honorary Awards by Bishop Dr. Charles Cofie Hackman.
This honour was in recognition for her exemplary and unwavering commitment to service, education and compassion throughout her remarkable journey in Ghana and across the globe from 1974 serving the physically disabled.
There were local and international commendations for the H4P Organization and its laudable projects and initiatives which truly exemplify dignity in disability.
The night was filled with incredible performances by Min Elorm, Pastor Daniel Opoku Adjei, Seperewa Agofoma (Abena Serwaa Osei Korankye), Douglas Makafui.
As the prestigious C.H.I.L Awards and Dinner Night continues to grow, it remains a beacon of hope and celebration of ability in disability.
Each year, the event brings new stories, new faces, and a renewed commitment to fostering an inclusive environment where everyone’s achievements are recognized and valued.
