The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and National Lottery Authority (NLA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at improving revenue mobilization and job creation for the youth. The MoU is expected to help create an enabling environment for the realization of President Nana Akufo-Addo’s vision of Ghana Beyond Aid. In this agreement, the two institutions would collaborate with private sector to operate solar-powered E-Kiosks that will increase the visibility, availability and accessibility of GRA and NLA services across the country. Under the project, some recruits under the Nation Builders Corps (NABco)  will be trained to undertake Tax Identification Number (TIN) registration exercise in order to increase the tax net. According to the NLA, the solar-powered E-Kiosks would also be used for registration of new taxpayers, receive completion of tax returns and ensure verification of tax clearance certificates. This, the NLA says, is expected to translate into maximizing revenue mobilization and creating unprecedented jobs in Ghana, especially for the youth. Mandate of GRA and NLA NLA established under Act 722 is the sole body responsible for the regulation, supervision, conduct and management of lotto and lotteries in Ghana whereas GRA, established under Act 791 as a semi-autonomous body, is responsible for collecting, assessing and accounting for tax revenues.
