The leadership of the Forum, comprising ten public sector workers unions has called on President John Dramani Mahama to commission an investigation into violent attacks against public servants who are being forced out of their bungalows.
The unions are; Civil and Local Government Staff Association (CLOGSAG), the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), Ghana Medical Association (GMA), Government Hospital Pharmacists Association (GHOSPA), Judicial Service Staff Association (JUSSAG), National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Coalition of Concerned Teachers, (CCT GH) and Ghana Association of Certified Registered Anesthetics, Ghana Physician Assistant Association (GPAA).
Chairman of the Forum, Isaac Bampoe Addo made the call when he addressed a news conference in Accra on January 9.
Some National Democratic Congress (NDC) apparatchiks after the 2024 elections have been taking over government bungalows occupied by some public servants.
President John Dramani Mahama has meanwhile called for order. But the leadership of the Forum has condemned the act.
Mr Bampoe Addo called on President Mahama to ensure that the culprits are punished.
“…we want those who are perpetrating this act should be brought to book. You cannot get away with this act. We are not in a jungle, we have rules and regulations and all must be respected, Two days ago I think the president spoke to it and said there must be law and order and we appreciate his comment, but those people involved must be held accountable,” he demanded.
He also stated that members of the Forum will resist any attempt by politicians to take over public service positions.
“We are also going to take steps to ensure that the public service is purged of all undesirable political misfits who have found themselves into the system,” he stated.
According to Mr Bampoe Addo, “Whenever there is a change of government, and a new political party takes power we see these acts of vandalism. Should we sit down and allow these hoodlums who are unidentified and armed to continue? So, this is the time we want them to know that the public service should remain intact.”
