The Gonjaland Traditional Council has resolved to visit the two troubled communities – Dissah and Salelgu – in the North Gonja district in the Northern Region. The move is seen as a reconciliatory by many after some Gonjas attacked the Tampulma people living in those communities. The two tribes have suffered attacks from each other over decades with the recent one being the killing of two persons and setting ablaze over 80 homes at Dissah and Salelgu communities, allegedly on the orders of Wasipe-Wura Mumuni Anyame Kabasangye II. Chairman of the Northern Regional Security Council told editors.3news.com‘s Northern Regional correspondent Zubaida Ismail after a meeting between some chiefs from Gonjaland led by the Buipe-Wura Jinapor and members of the Regional Security Council. The resolution would first see Tampulma Chiefs visit Yagbon, the palace of the Overlord of Gonjaland Yagbon-Wura Tuntumba Bor-esa I, where the intention of the Gonja traditional council to visit the two communities would be communicated to them.
The Saturday January 13, 2018 attack on Dissah and Salelgu communities, the worse ever, had devastating effect on residents, including women and children, who fled from the communities in the middle of the night. Houses, mainly mud huts in the two communities were torched that burnt to ashes stored up farm produce and livestock, the main source of livelihood of the residents. To forestall any reprisal or another attack, “REGSEC has put in place a mechanism to clamp down on groups or individuals who may take advantage of the volatile situation and attempt to stockpile offensive weapons”, Salifu Saeed the Northern Regional Minister who chairs REGSEC intimated. Meanwhile, officers of the Ghana Armed Forces Northern Command have retrieved five AK47 riffles in the two communities after the attack. Source: editors.3news.com | Ghana
